LEARNING has erupted into a new field at Kildwick CE Primary School.

Class-four pupils have been studying volcanoes as part of a project about Italy.

And the youngsters made their own using plastic bottles, papier-mache and paint.

"The children then did a scientific experiment to replicate a volcanic eruption – and the results were fantastic!" said headteacher Tim Whitehead.

"This was a classic case of cross-curricular learning.

"The children learned all about the science of volcanoes and also the history of what happened at Pompeii."
