A busy motorway ground to a standstill today after a lorry rolled over and shed its load of Coca-Cola across the road.

As well as pulling the overturned truck back onto its wheels, Highways England had to enlist the help of a bulldozer to clear thousands of bottles of Coke and other fizzy drinks from the westbound carriageway at junction 28.

Highways England said  the westbound carriageway within junction 28 was blocked with delays back to junction 30.

Traffic was diverted by the exit and entry slips while emergency services worked to clear the incident.

An early tweet from the agency said conditions were not expected to return to normal until after 7pm tonight, but the spillage was cleared by 2.30pm.

It was the third incident of the day on the M62, where earlier drivers heading into Bradford faced delays of up to two hours this morning on the M62 due to separate incidents.

One motorist told the T&A: "I've been commuting into Bradford for over a year and the M62 is often bad but this has got to be a record. It's just taken me three and a half hours to do a journey that normally takes about an hour."

Two lanes had to be closed on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 27 and 28 due to another overturned vehicle, while a broken down wagon also prompted lane closures westbound.
