OAKWELL Hall in Birstall was transported back almost 400 years yesterday at a Civil War re-enactment day.
The weekend of living history saw guests taken back to the 1640s at the Hall and its gardens.
Entertainment and attractions included a military display from the Civil War period, featuring the English Civil War Society’s Colonel Robert Overton’s Regiment of Foote, and musicians playing period instruments, and various other activities for children and adults.
The event was supported by Friends of Oakwell Hall, who work to help maintain the more than 300-year-old hall and its 100 acres of gardens and country park.
Events to mark the Civil War, which saw the Parliamentarians and Royalists go to battle between 1642 and 1651 over how England should be governed, took place all weekend at the Grade I-listed Oakwell Hall.
