A BRADFORD man is taking to his bike in his latest bid to raise funds for the Macmillan cancer charity.

Jeremy Dugdale, 57, is aiming to cycle more than 130 miles from Scarborough on Yorkshire’s east coast to Blackpool in the north-west.

He will be leaving his seaside starting point at around midnight on Friday, May 4, and hopes to finish at the Elgin Hotel on Blackpool’s Queens Promenade before 1pm on Sunday, May 6.

Last year, Mr Dugdale, an HGV driver of Oxford Road, Undercliffe, raised more than £800 by walking from his Bradford home to Blackpool in just under 24 hours.

He also tackled a 24-hour treadmill endurance trek at the Pure Gym in Idle in aid of the same cause.

Mr Dugdale has been fundraising for Macmillan since a family friend was supported by the charity when two relatives were diagnosed with cancer in the same week.

He is hoping to raise at least £500 with his coast-to-coast venture, during which he will be supported by family and friends cycling stages of the route and cheering him on.

He said: “Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways that you can, the charity wouldn’t exist.”
