MEMBERS of a Steeton-based motorbike club took to the road for an annual ‘springtime saunter’.

Enthusiasts from the Girder Fork and Classic Motorcycle Club stopped off at the Route 59 cafe in Bolton Abbey, where staff judged the best classic bike on show.

Winner was John Preston, with a 1961 Norton Model 50.

He was presented with the Dorothy and Mick Driver Salver.

The riders then continued on a route around Burnsall, Airton, Settle and Gisburn Forest, before heading to Skipton.

The club’s next major event is its annual Big Bike Sunday, at Skipton Auction Mart on June 24.

At the annual general meeting, held at Steeton Hall Hotel, it was decided that three good causes would be supported this year.

Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the National Association for Bikers with a Disability will all benefit from members’ fundraising activities.

Much of the money will be coined-in at the annual Big Bike Sunday.

“Last year we donated over £4,000 to our charities and it is hoped that figure can be exceeded this year,” said club chairman John Hunter.

The club – which has nearly 100 members – stages a range of activities, including speakers at its meetings and regular runs.
