POLICE in Kirklees are trialling the use of new technology in a bid to curb nuisance off road bikers in the area.
A new proactive policing operation is being launched across Kirklees District.
Ward areas will now benefit from a new team of off-road bikes and also the use of state-of-the-art technology of DNA spray as a new way of identifying and prosecuting anti-social riders.
Officers are warning riders they now have the tools to indisputably link them to the vehicles they offend on after securing the first prosecution using a DNA based spray.
The odourless and harmless spray, every can of which contains a unique chemical signature, can be used to linked people to offences. Officers in the Wakefield District have been using the technology and started seeing positive results.
The operation is due to last from April to September.
Anyone with any information about nuisance or off road bikes on the district's roads is asked to contact the police via 101.
