RISING stars of Bradford's urban music scene treated college students to a performance when a music collective featuring a past student and a current student performed a warm-up gig.

The rappers, DJs and singers prepared for the Elevation show at The Underground in Bradford on recently with a lunchtime set in the college’s David Hockney Building.

Among the performers were Josh Depass, who studied music technology at the college between 2007 and 2010, and current student Zee Ntini.

Josh, who combines working as a music technician in a young offenders’ institute with organising Elevation events and running record label Solidaire Records, said: “It was great to come back to college and to perform for the students who are the people who listen to and appreciate this type of music.

“On the back of setting up Solidaire we created Elevation, which is a live events company to showcase the talent that we have in the city.

“There is a lack of live events for urban music and hip-hop in the Bradford area. We have a big pool of talent in Bradford and massive following for urban music but not many platforms for it. So, that’s what we are trying to achieve.”

Zee, of Preme Sound, added: “It was amazing to perform at college. The response was brilliant and the atmosphere great.

“I am studying Access to HE Business with a view to going on to study business at university. I want to pursue a career in the music business.”
