TWO large events coming up in the next two weeks are hoped will swell the coffers for the Lord Mayor of Bradford's charity appeal.

Councillor Abid Hussain will start to round off his term of office with a sponsored walk from Robert's Park, in Saltaire, to Keighley.

It is taking place on Sunday, April 15.

Those expected to take part include Chief Superintendent Scott Bissett, of West Yorkshire Police and The Rt Reverend Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford.

There will be public figures and faith leaders from the district also joining the group along with members of the public.

Manoj Joshi, chairman of the Lord Mayor's appeal committee said: "We expect a lot of people to take part and those who wish to can get a sponsorship form by emailing: emma.walker@bradford.gov.uk.

"Anyone not wishing to get a sponsorship form can still take part in the walk and make a donation if they wish. There will be several collection buckets along the route."

The mayor's charities this year are the Down Syndrome Training and Support Services and the Wishing Well Appeal.

To boost the funding total further, the Lord Mayor's Appeal Charity Ball will be held at the Bradford Hotel, in Hall Ings, on Saturday, April 21.

Tickets are £50 per person with the catering being provided by the Aagrah.

Entertainment includes music, dancing and a magician.
