AN AWARD-winning children's charity has been commissioned by the Better Start Bradford initiative to deliver its latest project.

The Cooking for a Better Start project, which will be delivered by the HENRY charity, will offer practical cooking sessions over six weeks helping families gain the skills and knowledge to cook low-cost, healthy food at home.

It will be available to families in the Better Start Bradford area of Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton.

Groups of six parents will meet every week for six weeks to try out a range of straightforward recipes.

Dads, mums, grandparents, aunts and uncles are all welcome – anyone who looks after a child aged under four years old.

There will be a crèche available or children can be included and everyone who takes part will take home a free cooking related gift at the end of each week. The groups are all free.

Cooking for a Better Start will begin in May 2018 and will be delivered in community venues across the Better Start Bradford area.

Mary Dawson, HENRY’s Regional Manager, said: “The HENRY team are all looking forward to starting to deliver Cooking for a Better Start.

"Families are guaranteed to learn new skills and have fun at the same time and the project is open to anyone who looks after a child aged under four in the Better Start Bradford area.”

Better Start Bradford was set up to help children get the best start in life and is made possible thanks to a £49 million National Lottery grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Gill Thornton, Head of Programme at Better Start Bradford, said: “We are really pleased to be working alongside HENRY on Cooking for a Better Start.

"Through this project we hope to encourage families to enjoy food preparation and understand the benefits of cooking healthy food.”
