AVENGERS fans are in for an extra special treat later this month when superheroes descend on a Bradford cinema.

Around 25 character heroes will be in the foyer and around the cinema on Saturday, April 28; three days after the latest Marvels Studios film, Avengers: Infinity War, hits the screens.

Among the heroes will be Saahib Qureshi who has organised the gathering to raise money for Bradford Royal Infirmary’s children’s wards.

Mr Qureshi, 22, from Queen’s Road, has worked at the Odeon Leeds-Bradford, at Thornbury, for three years but in his spare time is an entertainer.

He has arranged for the superheroes to attend and he himself will be dressed as his favourite character, Spider-Man. A number of cinema attendants are dressing as princesses and will be on hand to pose for photographs.

“We expect that first Saturday after the film’s launch to be really busy and are hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the children’s ward.

“A lot of people have been waiting for the film to come out. It appeals to people of all ages so the first Saturday after the official screening should be really busy.

“Among the entertainment will be stalls and people selling raffle tickets. I have contacted local businesses to help out with prizes.

“There will also be balloon sculptors, face painters and cake sales.

“We are also going to ask people to make a donation if they or their children want to take selfies with any of the heroes.

“We will mostly collect donations through the event but are welcome to any online donations. Every penny counts. The event and online donations will further help the children’s wards by adding new beds, toys for the children and treatment for those who are severely ill.

“Bring the family down to meet their favourite superheroes and princesses.

“One hundred per cent of the money we receive on the day from the raffles, sales and donations will go to the fundraiser.

“I have set up a JustGiving page for people to donate however much they want.

“My manager at the Odeon, Katie Lodge, has really supported me with this idea and has backed the event.

“I was recently at the infirmary in my costume when the children’s and young person’s wards celebrated their first birthday with a tea party.

“The staff on the wards do a great job and I really want to raise as much money as possible so they can put it towards things they need.

The £28 million wing includes two paediatric wards, a children’s clinical decision area, school room, play room and dedicated teenage lounge.

Elaine Drake, from Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “It’s only through the kindness, generosity and hard work of our supporters like Saahib raising these vital funds for our charity that we are able to do more and more every year to take us closer to achieving our vision to provide the best possible facilities and environment at our hospitals.

“We aim to make the experience of babies, children and their families using our services as comfortable as possible by providing additional extras. These include innovative distraction toys and games, family-friendly waiting areas and additional medical equipment.”

Avengers: Infinity War is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
