THE number of deaths from heroin and morphine misuse in Bradford is higher than the national, according to new figures.

The Office for National Statistics revealed there were 2.5 deaths in Bradford per 100,000 people in 2016 compared to the national average of 1.7 in England.

Blackpool has topped the death rate list since 2010 to 2012, with 14.0 heroin and/or morphine misuse deaths per 100,000 in 2016.

The other seaside locations to feature at the top of the list, included Bournemouth and Portsmouth.

Public Health England's report, Preventing Drugs Misuse Deaths, said: "Social factors, including housing, employment and deprivation, are associated with substance misuse and these social factors moderate drug treatment outcomes."
