LANDMARKS around Bradford city centre will be lit up red, white and blue this weekend to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Royal Air Force.

The lights will feature on City Hall’s clock tower, the arches next to Forster Square railway stations, and the Margaret McMillan Tower today and tomorrow in recognition of the anniversary.

Sunday, April 1, will mark 100 years since the RAF was founded.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Abid Hussain said: “Many Bradford district families will have strong links with the Royal Air Force, from the past 100 years and right up to the present day.

“We will honour these connections and show our support for the RAF as they celebrate and reflect on their history.”

The Royal Air Force is the oldest independent air force in the world, founded towards the end of the First World War following the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service, and currently has almost 32,000 full-time personnel.
