MEDICAL teams rushed to Holy Family School today to test dozens of children after staff declared an emergency.

Specialists assessed 48 students at the school in Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley, after a number of them complained of skin irritation.

Police and firefighters also responded to the call.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it received an emergency call from Holy Family School at 10.40am today.

She said: “We dispatched a number of resources to the scene including a doctor, three ambulance crews, a number of supervisors and our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“Our staff and specialist resources assessed 48 students on scene but none required conveyance to hospital. One child has been taken to hospital due to an unrelated medical condition.

“We are pleased that the incident has been brought to a safe conclusion and would like to thank our staff and emergency services colleagues for their valued assistance.”

West Yorkshire Police said this afternoon that they were no longer involved in the incident, and understood the school would be making a statement to parents today.

Martin Hings, headteacher at Holy Family School, said this morning staff received reports from a few students of itchy skin and mild irritation.

He said: "We were unsure of the source of the irritation so as a precaution reported this to the Emergency Services who attended immediately. They carried out exhaustive checks and could not find anything of a concern.

"We are very grateful for their rapid response and level of professionalism."
