A TEENAGE burglar has been handed a suspended sentence.

Mohammed Yasin, 18, of Girlington Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and one of theft at Bradford Crown Court today. He denied one count of going equipped for burglary and another of making off without payment.

The court heard the incidents, both in Cottingley, Bingley, unfolded in April last year. Yasin was disturbed in one burglary by the occupants of the house He ran to get in a car and someone in the vehicle was heard to say “we want your car keys mate”.

In another, a Nissan Duke car was stolen. When he was arrested, a small amount of heroin was found, as well as gloves and a torch. The court heard his father was unwell at the time, and has since died, and the people he was associating with were “more sophisticated in a criminal way”. He also tested negative for heroin and said the bag belonged to one of the others he was with.

He was handed an 18-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work.
