PLANS to build a housing development on a strip of land in Lidget Green have been approved by Bradford Council.

Abdul Waheed Javeed had submitted the application to build 20 semi detached, three bedroom houses on land at Northside Terrace, which backs onto Dixons Kings Academy, last year.

Each house would have two parking spaces.

Planning officers have this week given the green light for the houses to be built.

Plans to build 24 townhouses on the site were approved in 2013, but the building never started.

Approving the scheme, officers said: "The scheme provides a residential development on a previously-developed land. The layout of the proposal is acceptable and presents no concerns with regard to residential amenity and highway safety."

There had been a number of objections, with one saying the building would lead to the loss of "green space for children to safely play."

However, officers replied: "The area is not a formal play area and comprises a grassed area adjacent to a road. It is not considered to be a suitable area for play and is in fact private land so shouldn’t be used for that purpose without the owners consent."

Another questioned the impact the houses would have on wildlife, but planners responded: "There are no features on the site that would support wildlife."

One condition of the application is that each property includes a charging point for electric cars.
