THE family of a man who died of a heart condition will hold an event to mark the first anniversary of his death.

Hamid Musa died of a heart condition on March 10 last year aged 52 and the family of the father-of-two have chosen to hold an event in Lister Park on Saturday in his memory.

Mr Musa and his wife, Kareemaa met in Bradford where they both worked.

"I was born in Bradford while Hamid, who was from Kenya originally, came to Bradford at the age of three.

"We met while both working at Foto Processing.

"We did eventually move away to Barnsley in 1996 and ran a paper shop until a few years ago, but all our family and most of our friends are in Bradford and we wanted to mark the anniversary here.

"My eldest daughter, Hannah, who is 10, wanted to hold it on the actual day. She and her sister, Ayaana, eight, have been devastated at losing their father so putting on a fundraising event like this has helped them deal with their bereavement.

"It has been a lot of work and I have to thank my brother and sister in law, Anwar and Sarya who have put their heart and soul into it.

"It has been very emotional for all of us but Hamid was a very kind and caring person and this event, which is going to raise money for the the Penny Appeal, will go towards helping others and is something he would have enjoyed doing."

Mrs Musa said he was diagnosed with the heart condition around six years ago and they were determined to enjoy their time together.

The fundraising appeal they have launched is called Hamid's Helping Hands which aims to raise funds for the world's most poor and needy children.

The appeal hopes to provide clean water, food and shelter and also hopes to look at bigger projects including building schools.

More than £3,500 has been raised on the charity's online fundraising page to date with a target of £10,000.

Mr Musa was described as a "loving, caring husband and daddy who was passionate about helping the poor to eliminate poverty around the world".

The fundraising day will be held on Saturday, March 10, at Lister Park, Manningham, between noon and 4pm and around 250 people are expected to take part.

It will include stalls from groups including the HALE Project, Diabetes Awareness and Mind the Gap.

A 5k walk around Lister Park, called 'A Walk for Daddy, will start at 2pm. There is no registration fee for the walk, but a £2 donation on the day would be appreciated.

Attractions will include a penalty shoot-out, hoops and skipping ropes, face painting and a selfie frame.

Guests at the event are expected to include the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, and Bradford East MP Imran Hussain who will give speeches at 1.30pm.

Hannah is going to give a speech about her father while Ayaana will read a poem.
