POLICE have disciplined a driver who pulled onto a motorway hard shoulder to "wait for a friend" - just yards from a police car.
Earlier today a team from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit had pulled a vehicle over onto the hard shoulder of the M606 Southbound, near Staygate, after finding out its MOT had expired on February 8.
While they were dealing with the driver of that car, officers were shocked to see another vehicle pull up onto the hard shoulder, just yards from the marked police car.
The driver told police he had pulled over to wait for a friend.
They issued him with a Traffic Offence Report.
Drivers are only legally allowed to stop on hard shoulders in emergency situations.
A police spokesman said: "Words fail me."
