A BY-election is to be held to elect a new councillor to represent Skipton North Ward on Skipton Town Council. It follows the resignation of Calvin Dow who stepped down because of work commitments. Nominations are now being accepted for anyone who wishes to stand in the election, which will take place on Thursday, March 22 - assuming that there is more than one candidate. Chief officer of Skipton Town Council, Dave Parker, said: “Anyone over the age of 18 can stand, providing they meet the relevant criteria – which can be viewed on the council’s website. The website also gives more information on becoming a councillor and how to download a nomination pack which includes all the relevant forms which need to be completed.” Nomination packs are also available from Craven District Council’s offices at Belle Vue Mills on Broughton Road in Skipton – or from the town council’s reception at Skipton Town Hall. Nominations must be lodged no later than 4pm on Friday. The new councillor will serve until the next full elections, which are due to take place in May 2019.
