A WORTH Valley based-cadet group inspired by the work of the Fire and Rescue Service has been in action again, this time at a reservoir.

Young members of Haworth and Worth Valley Fire Cadets stepped up a level on their training ladder this month (February) when they were invited to Weecher Reservoir, near Eldwick, by Yorkshire Water.

Cadet group spokesman Iain Chapman said: "Our cadets took part in various water pumping activities using a fire appliance and a selection of hoses.

"The two instructors, Rob Rutter and Mel Hawkes, laid out the hard suction pipe in preparation for the training while the cadets were kitted out in their uniform and safety gear.

"The cadets were taught how to support each other and worked together as a team using the different high pressure hoses and branches."

He expressed his thanks to Yorkshire Water and also Weecher Sailing for their hospitality and support during the day.

Mr Chapman said: "Although the weather was snowy, windy and bitterly cold, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all, including the accompanying parents, instructors and assistants.

"And the hot chocolate drinks served at the end of the session were a welcome warmer to round off the day."
