THE recent court judgement in favour of the planning application to build an incinerator in Keighley reflects poorly on Bradford Council.

This council has shown that it doesn’t value the local heritage, nor the environment on the moors above the Aire Valley, by supporting the application.

Thousands of local people have demonstrated their disapproval of this plan. Both Keighley and Bingley town councils have voted against it, Ilkley and Ben Rhydding councillors voiced their concerns and three MPs – Keighley and Ilkley, Bingley and Skipton – on behalf of their constituents, have all made their opposition widely known.

Remember it was three Bradford councillors who pushed the planning committee to pass the application – not local councillors, but those from outside the district.

The myth persists that there will be many jobs for Keighley residents, but the developers are rash when making those promises.

They have obtained the planning permission in order to increase the value of the land, which, as none of them have expertise in building or running an incinerator, will be sold on to the highest bidder.

Appointing people to the highly specialised jobs will be the responsibility of the companies building and operating the plant, not the developers who have obtained the planning permission.
