CREWS were called to a fire at a house under construction in Keighley.

The fire at a three-storey semi-detached house at a building site in Staincliffe Drive took place at just before 9.45pm yesterday.

Watch commander Jon MacDonald, of Keighley Fire Station, said the affected house was under construction and the property was fully involved in fire.

He added flames were coming from windows on both the first and second floor of the property, at a building site.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Crews from Keighley and Silsden Fire Station were called to the incident and were at the scene for almost three hours.

They used two large water jets to bring the fire under control.

"The whole house was involved in the fire but credit to our crews – their quick actions prevented it spreading to the adjoining property," said Keighley Fire Station watch commander, Jon Macdonald.

"Much of the internal building work on the house was still to be completed – and there's no gas, electricity or water to it – but from the outside it looked complete, with roof, doors and windows.

"We had the fire under control quite quickly and once it was extinguished, we moved inside to damp down.

"The cause of the fire is unclear."
