PEOPLE in Bradford have been urged to show their love of the great outdoors and vote for their favourite reservoir in Yorkshire in a new competition.

Yorkshire Water has launched an online campaign for Yorkshire people to decide upon the county’s most loved and spectacular reservoir.

Millions of people visit Yorkshire’s 130 reservoirs every year to run, walk their dog, picnic, or just to enjoy the peace and tranquillity they provide free of charge.

For the West Yorkshire section of the vote, which ends on Friday, February 9, at 5pm, people have the choice between Blackmoorfoot in Kirklees; Digley, near Holmfirth; Scammonden, near Huddersfield; Widdop, near Hebden Bridge; Lower & Upper Gorple, also near Hebden Bridge; Ogden Water, Halifax; Booth Wood, Calderdale; Baitings, near Rishworth and Lower Laithe, near Haworth.

People can also vote for a site not shortlisted under the other category, which may include reservoirs from other areas in West Yorkshire.

Bradford residents may decide to vote for one of the district’s reservoirs, which include Chellow Dene, Hewenden and Graincliffe.

The overall competition, for all regions of Yorkshire, will run throughout this month and March, with the public deciding via a weekly vote on the best reservoir in first west, then north and then south Yorkshire each week.

A grand final vote for the competition will take place between February 24 to March 3.

Tom Underwood, from Yorkshire Water, urged people to vote for their favourite reservoir in each of the areas in Yorkshire, including the west.

He said: “Lots of people have their favourite local reservoir that they visit and we want to know find out, definitively, which can boast as being the most popular in the county. The winning reservoir will have a fantastic life-sized picture frame installed at the water edge that will frame the beautiful landscape and make for a memorable photo.

“We’d encourage people to support their local reservoir and get voting now.”

Yorkshire Water has also urged people to take a selfie at one of the West Yorkshire reservoirs, to be in with a chance of winning £25 worth of outdoors vouchers.

The winning reservoir will have a permanent, life-sized photo frame installed to celebrate its new found status as Yorkshire’s Most Popular Reservoir.

Yorkshire Water’s first Facebook post to promote the campaign went live earlier this week and received more than 10,000 views within its first couple of days, and asks the public to vote for West Yorkshire’s best ‘res’.
