WINNER of over 100 international awards, Manchester By The Sea will be Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, February 4, 8pm at Ilkley Playhouse.
Lee (Casey Affleck) is living a solitary life as a janitor and handyman in Massachusetts when he learns that his brother Joe is dangerously ill in their tiny home town, Manchester-by-the-sea, from which Lee fled years before after a family tragedy. He is shocked to find that he has been named as the legal guardian of Joe's teenage son Patrick. Lee is confronted by unwelcome responsibilities, complicated by the presence in the town of his own ex-wife Randi (the marvellous Michelle Williams).
Affleck's career-best performance won him an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe in this emotionally intelligent, mature and visually exquisite film, written and directed by former playwright Kenneth Lonergan, whose screenplay also won an Oscar.
Non-members are welcome as guests (£4) but their admission cannot be guaranteed unless they reserve tickets in advance by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097. More information about the Ilkley Film Society season visit www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk
