A ROYAL Air Force Regiment gunner from Cross Roads is training to complete a hugely demanding physical feat which will see him run an incredible 828 miles.

Corporal Gary Binns, together with a colleague – corporal Tom Sherrington – will begin running from John O'Groats to Land's End on April 23 in aid of three deserving charities.

He said: "We'll be attempting to become part of an elite group by running from John O’ Groats to Land’s End, and are looking at achieving this great feat in 25 days, which means running on average 33 miles per day."

To recognise both distance and locations involved, the pair are naming their adventure JOGLE828.

Proceeds from their effort will go towards RAF Benevolent Fund, the charity MIND and a fund for another serving RAF man called Jordan Brown, who has a brain tumour and needs surgery.

Corporal Binns explained that he had served with corporal Brown, and is also a friend of his. He said corporal Brown needs to raise more than £300,000 to travel to Texas, USA, for extensive specialist surgery.

He added: "Having served alongside Jordan I know he's a fighter and a winner but also a great guy who deserve the help, so we couldn't think of a more epic challenge to hurt our bodies to help feel his pain."

Corporal Binns, 33, was a pupil at Oakbank School and has been in the RAF for 14 years. He is currently based at RAF Halton, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

He and corporal Sherrington have begun training for their gruelling spring challenge.

Last month they took part in a 45-mile Wendover to London Paddington Ultra run, finishing in just over seven hours.

Corporal Binns said: “The run was well organised. It was a good experience and puts into perspective how much of a challenge JOGLE828 will be."
