CITY centre landmarks will be lit up in red tomorrow to raise awareness for a life-saving charity.

The Mirror Pool, City Hall clock tower and the arches near Forster Square will be illuminated to mark the 30th year of the Children's Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF).

Former work colleagues Divinder Purewal and Gillian Hirst came up with the idea to support the charity, which has helped their own families.

Gillian's son Danny, now 14, had open heart surgery when he was 11 to fix a hole in his heart and has to have a blood test twice a week to check his warfarin dose.

The charity donated a blood test machine to the family so Danny can have the levels checked at home instead of being taken out of school, helping him live a normal life.

Gillian said: "The charity is fantastic, it's important to me to fundraise for them."
