SENIOR pupils at South Craven School have been given some additional help to ensure they can make informed choices about their futures.

The school organised and hosted a "Higher Education Progression" evening this month, where its year 12 students were addressed by professionals from Leeds Beckett University and Craven College.

Also among those present were representatives from Myerscough College and University Centre, in Lancashire.

A spokesman from South Craven explained: "Given the increased competition that our students are currently facing for university and college places, as well as for apprenticeships and employment, we have begun our advice and guidance for progression this term.

"Our aim is to encourage student and parents to engage in the process of planning for the future."

During the evening on January 17 the visitors advised South Craven students on topics such as routes into further education and what apprenticeships involve.

Pupils had opportunities to gather more information about what options are open to them when they leave school from people representing universities, further education colleges and apprenticeship providers.
