YOUNG people at an assembly for senior pupils at South Craven School were given a message of how to live healthily, and how to spot early signs of cancer.

The sixth form assembly earlier this month (January) was addressed by Roger Lennon from the Teenage Cancer Trust.

A spokesman for the school explained: "Roger Lennon, who is known as Lenny, was raising awareness of cancer in young people and helping ensure that they are able to recognise the early symptoms.

"His assembly also encouraged our students to take control of their health, make good lifestyle choices and to feel confident in speaking to health professionals."

She added that Teenage Cancer Trust was one of the charities to have benefited from South Craven's sixth form £10 challenge.

This sees pupils demonstrating their initiative by competing with each other to turn an initial sum of £10 into a much larger amount for a good cause.

During Mr Lennon's visit, the South Craven pupils presented him with a donation of £651. He explained to them what his charity would be spending this money on.
