A CROWD funding page has been set up to help two people attacked by armed robbers at a Sainsbury's Local store.

Detectives are investigating the attempted armed robbery, in Chapeltown, Pudsey.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said staff were preparing to close the store at 10.50pm on Friday, January 12, when three masked men entered through an open rear fire door.

"A male member of staff was hit on the head with a weapon causing an injury, before the men threatened his female colleague with a knife. They demanded the safe be opened but the staff did not have access.

"The men then left the store empty-handed and were heard to drive off at speed.

"The member of staff who was injured was treated at hospital but his injuries were not serious."

Another member of staff was said to be present and all three were left shaken.

A JustGiving crowdfunding page has raised more than £900 to help the three members of staff involved in the attack.

Pudsey resident Elizabeth Edgington said: "I live locally to the shop. There’s a group of us wanting to give the staff affected a joint present to show our support."

Dawn Seary added: "The staff in Sainsburys are great. I can't imagine how terrifying it was to be threatened with a knife or see your colleagues attacked.

“Let’s club together and give them a present that they can use for a treat from us all.”
