WEATHER: Schools across Bradford closed as snow and ice hit district

A NUMBER of schools are closed across the Bradford district this morning due to bad weather and unsafe travel conditions. 

Bradford Council tweeted this morning its routes had been gritted all night and that its gritters would be staying on with new crews throughout the morning.

No incidents have been reported as yet on roads around the city but there is still a yellow warning for more snow. Six centimetres of snow was reported to have fallen in some parts of Bingley over night.

West Yorkshire Police has said motorways are coping well with the weather, but advised people to allow extra stopping distance and use headlights when appropriate. 

However, officers are currently assisting motorists in Denholme and are advising people to avoid the area as roads are not passable. 

Another cold, windy day is predicted with more wintry showers although it should get brighter later on.
