LAST UPDATED 6.25PM

SNOW and sleet showers are forecast for Bradford throughout Tuesday, Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

A yellow Met Office warning, meaning people should be prepared, for snow and ice remains in place for Bradford until 11am on Wednesday.

A yellow snow warning has also been issued from 6pm on Wednesday until 9am on Thursday and a yellow wind warning is in place from 9pm on Wednesday until 11am on Thursday.

Light snowfall started at around 3pm in Bradford and it is predicted to get heavier throughout rush-hour.

Gritters have already been out across the district this morning and Bradford Council says 60 per cent of the district’s roads have been gritted.

Pavement and footpath gritters have also been out in the city centre and town centres from 5am.

People are being advised not to travel if possible during the snowy weather, drive carefully and responsibly, and to take care while travelling to look out for black ice or ice caused by compacted snow.

There are also reports of "lethal" conditions near Keelham Farm Shop, Brighouse and Denholme Road.

And motorists have reported seeing abandoned and stuck cars on Windy Bank Lane, Queensbury, and on Buttershaw Lane, Wibsey

People have said they have also experienced delays on public transport, with some roads in the district heavy with traffic.

One Telegraph & Argus reader sent us a picture of a car which had lost control and crashed into railings on James Street, Thornton, at around 5.15pm. She said there had also been a crash at the top of the street, as well as one further down and she described the roads as "chaos".

Meanwhile a Highways England spokesperson said there are "severe delays" on the westbound carriageway of the M62 between junction 26 and junction 22 due to multiple reports of broken down vehicles.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for journeys and use alternative routes if possible.

It is recommended that multiple thin layers of clothing are best to keep warm, and to check on vulnerable friends, family or neighbours to make sure they are warm and safe.
