A GOVERNMENT inspector says a large canvas sign has to be removed from a listed building in Manningham.
Last year Bradford Council refused a retrospective planning application by J Ashraf for a canvas advertisement on the side of 1 Mount Royd.
The Lockwood and Mawson designed Victorian villa, off Manningham Lane is in a conservation area
He appealed the decision, saying the advertisement was small compared to the rest of the building, and "is not particularly noticeable unless you know it's there."
Government inspector Geoff Underwood disagreed, saying the building had "considerable significance as a nationally important building."
He added: "Its conspicuous position makes it appear as a discordant element in one of the Conservation Area’s historic and attractive streetscapes. The advertisement is not in scale or keeping with the neighbourhood’s important scenic, historic, architectural and cultural features."
