A GROUP of families have staged a protest in Girlington against plans to make cuts to children’s services in Bradford.

Around 26 Eastern European families from the local area were at the protest, held at St Edmund’s Children’s Centre, demonstrating over plans to downgrade children’s centres as part of the cuts.

The families called the event after hearing their local centre could be at risk of closure due to the cuts, and were upset the service many of them rely on would close.

Bradford Council is currently holding a consultation in the plans to cut £13.6 million from its budget and nearly 500 staff from the Prevention and Early Help service with in Children’s Services.

As part of the plans, many children’s centres would be downgraded to become ‘outreach centres’, providing a minimum of eight hours of service a week.

The public consultation closes on Monday, February 12, and to have your say visit the consultation section of bradford.gov.uk
