A MOTORIST who hit the back of another car as it waited at a roundabout was over the drink drive limit, heard magistrates.

Lyndsey Denham-Brown, 25, was driving a Vauxhall Astra along Keighley Road, Skipton, just before 5pm on December 18 when she collided with a car waiting at the roundabout onto the A629.

In a statement read out in court, the driver of the stationary car described the Astra coming towards her at speed, driving into the back of her car, and pushing her vehicle forward.

She got out to talk to Denham-Brown, believed her to have been drinking, and called the police, the court heard. She added she believed the other driver was going to leave the scene.

Denham-Brown was taken to the police station where a breath test revealed she had 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Denham-Brown, a woman of previous good character of Greenroyd Drive, Sutton-in-Craven, admitted drink driving. She told the court she had been drinking, should not have driven, but had believed she was not over the limit. She added her car had just clipped the other one as she had passed it, and was very sorry.

Magistrates banned Denham-Brown from driving for 17 months and fined her £120, with costs of £85 and surcharge of £30. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course by December 5, her ban will be reduced by 17 weeks.
