A 20-year-old man killed in a crash in the early hours yesterday has been named locally as apprentice legal worker Hasan Dad.

Mr Dad had been driving a grey Peugeot 107 when it collided with a grey Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Fairbank Road and Whetley Lane in Girlington.

Following the collision the Astra also crashed into two parked cars at the side of the road, a BMW and a Toyota.

A large crowd gather at the scene following the crash, with firefighter having to put up barriers to shield paramedics from views while they carried out CPR.

Mr Dad, from Lidget Green, was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at hospital.

Colleagues have paid tribute to Mr Dad who they said was the office’s “bright young star.”

Mr Dad, a former Bradford Academy pupil, had joined Alison Law Solicitors in Campus Road, Listerhills, in October as a legal apprentice.

Office manager Raees Khan said Mr Dad’s sudden death had left the office heartbroken.

He said: “We were supposed to be shut over Christmas but everyone has come in because of the terrible news.

“We are heartbroken and in shock. Hasan was our bright young star. He was a highly intelligent young man, passionate about learning and becoming a solicitor.

“He came to us on an apprentice scheme starting at the grass-roots to work his way up into a legal career and he would have succeeded and become a brilliant solicitor, I’m sure of that.

“He was sharp-witted, a very polite young man, a good character. It’s just so sad his life has ended when he was just starting to flourish. He was mature for his young age. We were all very fond of him.”

Aneesa Chaudary who worked closest with Mr Dad added: “Hasan was the life of the firm, his youth and his curious attitude were refreshing. Hasan was always respectful and kind.”

Mr Khan added: “We are involved in civil litigation and it’s tragically ironic we are dealing with two cases at the moment concerning two separate collisions at that very same spot at that junction.

“Hasan would have been aware of those. People know about that junction. It should have traffic lights.”

According to work friends Mr Dad had been on his way home from a Christmas holiday job at a restaurant when the collision happened.

Rizwan Shehzad, who lives on the corner of Whetley Lane and Fairbank Road, was in his house when the crash happened.

He said: “The car was severely damaged, I couldn’t tell what make of car it was it was so bad.

“The area was then cordoned off and it took a long time to sort it all out.

“The little car was a way down the street and then the Astra was next to mine.”

Mr Shehzad’s BMW car, which he uses for his job as a driving instructor, was parked up when it sustained front end damage after one of the cars crashed into it, and a Toyota Avensis private hire car parked behind it was also damaged.

“This junction has been getting worse and worse, every other week there is a bad accident happening.

“People have to pull out of Fairbank Road to see down Whetley Lane and some people drive pretty quickly up Whetley Lane.

“There needs to be something done to stop it, possibly traffic lights or some sort of one-way system on Fairbank Road because even if they put up traffic lights some people will probably just ignore them.”

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, added: “Something needs to be done, there are always crashes around here on this road and it’s another life lost.”

After being shut for around eight hours, Whetley Lane was reopened to traffic yesterday morning. Shattered glass and pieces of plastic were scattered across the road from the collision.

Councillor Fozia Shaheen (Labour, Toller) said: “I feel really saddened, and my thoughts and prayers are with the dead man and his family.

“We do not have much information from police at this time and we should leave it to the police to investigate and make the enquiries they need to make.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the police are appealing for information about the incident.

Anyone who saw the collision or has any information is being asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 0040 of Wednesday, December 27, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.
