STUDENTS at Immanuel College, in Thackley, have been working in conjunction with the Salvation Army and local Cadets to give something back to their community.

For the last month they have been working within their form groups to donate and collect different items to create a gift box for a homeless person this winter.

The boxes have been donated to the Salvation Army which is distributing the boxes to the homeless through their Orchard Hosue day shelter, in Leeds Road, Bradford, and during their outreach work two nights a week.

Each form group collected various items such as clothing, food and toiletries as well as decorating the box, many with a Christmas theme, and writing an inspiring message inside.

Andrea Greenhalgh who organised and led the appeal said: “The students in year 7 to 11 have been actively involved in the appeal and both staff and students have shown a real enthusiasm in making it successful.

"I am so pleased to see the students working collaboratively to support their local community."

Major Jeanette Lees, service manager with the Salvation Army said: "We were overwhelmed with the things the students had collected and will make sure they are distributed. They have done a fantastic job."
