A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at a property on the outskirts of Bradford city centre.

A 41-year-old man is currently in critical condition in hospital after having emergency surgery following the incident

Police were called to an address on Easby Road, in the Morley Street area, at 11:16pm yesterday after reports of an injured man.

When officers arrived they found the man with "a number of stab wounds to his abdomen."

He was taken to hospital for surgery and is currently in a critical condition.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and police said inquiries remain active and ongoing.

There was a police cordon around a number of properties around the address, opposite the Trinity Green Campus of Bradford College, this morning.

A number of officers and police vehicles were also at the scene.

Councillor Nazam Azam (Lab, City) said: “It’s very concerning that such incidents are taking place.

“I don’t know the extent of the injuries, I’m sure the police will be carrying out investigations and we need to allow them to do that.

“It’s distressing to hear something like that, but I don’t know much further in terms of the circumstances surrounding it.

“We need to allow the police to carry out their investigations and determine what has taken place.”

While Cllr Azam’s fellow ward councillor Aneela Ahmed added: “It’s shocking, especially so close to Christmas.

“It is shocking, but hopefully the police will deal with it and get to the bottom of what has happened.

“Our prayers are with the gentleman and his family and we are wishing him all the best.”

She also encouraged any residents to contact the three City ward councillors if they want to speak about the incident.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Ryann Bragg said: “We are currently working to establish the full circumstances leading to this incident and we remain in the early stages of our enquiries.

“Local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be patrolling the area speaking to people and providing reassurance.

“I would ask anyone with information or any further witnesses to this serious incident to contact us on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
