A SILSDEN community centre is organising a German Christmas market.

The Hive will host the event with a gin & tin bar, Yorkshire-sourced fresh bratwurst and a fairground ride on Saturday, December 16.

Mark Green, the ‘local German Honorary Consul’, will open the event, which is due to run from 4pm to 7pm.

The Hive – formerly the Silsden Youth and Community Centre on Elliott Street – has teamed up with local businesses to stage the event.

Other attractions will include Santa Claus in his grotto, children’s activities, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and gift and craft stalls. Admission is free, but donations are requested.

Leanne Caveney, events coordinator at The Hive, said: “We are very excited to hold this event to mark the end of what has been a very successful and fun-filled year for us all here at The Hive.

“We couldn’t have done it all without the support of our local community, so this is our way of giving something back to them in way of a celebration of everything local, and of course everything Christmassy!”

The Hive is managed by Silsden Youth Community Interest Company, a non-profit organisation who took over the building from Bradford Council in April last year to avoid its closure.

Leanne said: “Since taking over we have increased the number of people using the centre, we have put on various events for all age groups and we intend to do much more for our community in 2018 and beyond.”
