LATEST: Murder investigation launched after man death of man injured outside Bingley nightclub

A MAN who was injured outside a nightclub in Bingley 10 days ago has died.

Bingley Town Council has led tributes to 24-year-old James Etherington who died after sustaining critical injuries outside Bijou Bar and nightclub, in Chapel Lane, on November 25.

The Council's message on Facebook read: "We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of James Etherington who sadly passed away this afternoon.

"The Town Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled out of respect for James's family and in consideration of their privacy.

"We are seeking advice from the police as to suitable future actions. Thank you for your understanding, our thoughts are with James's family and friends."

Mr Etherington's brother, Joe, wrote a poignant message on his Facebook account to announce to friends that his brother had died peacefully at 5.12pm today.

He wrote: "He put up one hell of a fight but it was never to be, his injuries were too severe. You were loved by countless people and will never ever be forgotten, especially by me, Mum and Dad.

"It was honestly the best 21 years I spent with you and will never ever forget the memories I was lucky enough to have with you. You were nothing short of a miracle, a hero and the best role model a younger brother and best ever friend could ever ever ask for.

"You were too good for this world and hopefully will join you on the other side where we will meet again once more. Goodnight James my absolute world and will never ever forget you, Love you more than you will ever believe."

Hundreds of friends have posted messages of support for Mr Etherinton's family. Other messages have come from people who did not know him. One read: "So, so sad. I’m so sorry this has happened. I didn’t know him but I’ve seen countless posts for the past week about him and he’s clearly well loved and highly thought of. RIP James.

Another wrote: "My heart is breaking for your family and his dear friends, another bright star in the sky at night. Sending much love to you all at this sad time xx."

Another message read: "Nobody should go out on a night out and not return home to their loved ones.

"I didn’t even know James, but he was very highly thought of by so many people who knew him and I know this by how may people have posted well wishes over the last couple of weeks.

"I offer my sincerest condolences to you and your family."

Councillor David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said he was told the news earlier this evening.

"This is a tragedy for the young man's family to have his life cut short. I think everyone's hearts go out to his family and friends who have to cope with this absolutely preventable tragedy.

"What is needed now is justice for this family and I hope that anyone with any information will be able to assist the police by coming forward as soon as possible."

Four men were arrested over the incident. Two aged, 30 and 31, have been released under investigation. A 23-year-old has been bailed pending further enquiries and a 28-year-old has been released without charge.

Condolences to family and friends of the young man who very sadly passed away. However, recent threats made by some in retaliation to this tragic and sad outcome are equally as irresponsible and unjustified as, no doubt, the series of events that led up to the incident. Let the relevant agencies deal with any matters of justice and accountability.

I met James only once about 5 years ago in The Queens in Bingley, I had never met him before, he came over to me to ask if I was related to a girl he knew, the girl was my daughter, he said we were the spit of each other and that is why he asked, he also said he thought I was her sister, not mother (cheeky chap) he was a very friendly guy, we chatted for a little while and went our separate ways. To hear what had happened to him was such a blow, I am a mother of a 30 year and a 21 year old and I just can not imagine the pain James' family are going through. Just seeing all the comments on Facebook and all the people of Bingley getting involved just show how much he was loved and also show what an absolute tragedy this is. RIP James' you lovely young man x

I have shed tears for your family and for you. Nobody should lose their life in such a tragic way and no parent should have to face this. I know one of your friends and I know how totally devastated he is by your loss. As a mum I can't begin to imagine the sorrow your family are feeling right now. You are now in a place where only the good go and you will never again have to face the evil of this world we live in. God bless you and your family and friends. Tragically, a young life needlessly lost, for what? My heart goes out to his family and I hope that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice. My sincere condolences to all of James's family. I did not know James but my son Luke Wilkinson knew James and is a friend of his on facebook. Luke my son was attacked at the same nightclub in early April 2017, they followed him after Luke had been thrown out of the nightclub. Luke had cuts and bruises and also had a big cut on his head. Anyone who can do that to a young lad and take his life needs locking up and throwing away the key. I cannot even imagine what you are all going through my heart goes out to you all.
