KEIGHLEY’S Past, Present and Future will be acted out by children from two local schools as part of the reopening of Cliffe Castle Museum’s Victorian park area.

Year 6 children from Long Lee and Ingrow Primary Schools are helping launch the event on Sunday with the performance of a Christmas Carol esque drama they have researched and helped to write themselves after visiting the refurbished attraction for inspiration.

They took part in Bradford Council’s Art & Science of Noticing workshop at the museum to collect ideas for their performance.

They will be performing at 11.30am on Sunday in the museum’s Bracewell Smith Hall, as part of the annual ‘Christmas at the Castle’ event which this year includes the grand reopening of the Heritage Lottery Fund supported park restoration.

Claire Ackroyd, the Council’s Learning Manager said: “Everyone is familiar with the story of the Christmas Carol and it has helped inspire a new performance looking at Keighley’s Past Present and Future.

“Bradford Council’s Museums and Parks team have worked together to run workshops which have helped the pupils to explore the whole of Cliffe Castle for their performance. The children have had some brilliant ideas and their show will make a great contribution to our celebrations.”

Megan Davey, assistant head teacher for English at Ingrow Primary School said: “The children were totally enthralled with the Art of Noticing workshop and are working away behind the scenes to create their performance.

“The Year Six pupils have been very engaged with the project from the start and are eager to share their newly acquired knowledge about our local history with others from school. Our children feel proud to be asked to take part in this special opportunity; they are really rising to the challenge and look forward to sharing their hard work with the public.”

The event runs from 11am to 4pm.
