PLANS to transform part of the Robot Building in Laisterdyke into a take away have been refused by planners.

An application by Sandeep Gupta would have seen an empty shop in the building’s ground floor converted to a hot food take away.

The upper floor has recently been converted into seven apartments, and earlier this year plans to turn the unit into a restaurant were refused because planners felt there would not be enough parking for residents and customers of the restaurant.

The new application said car usage of the residents of the one bed flats would be “low.”

However Bradford Council planners said the proposed take away was so big “it would not be unreasonable to assume there would be a significant element of eating in and the building would be used, for all intents and purposes as a restaurant.

"If a take away is proposed it does not require the large floor area shown under this application."

Plans were refused because of a lack of parking, the increase in vehicle movements the take away would bring, and a lack of information on the hours the business would be open.
