POLICE investigating the death of a pedestrian in Bradford have appealed for a person believed to have been with him at the time or just before, to come forward and speak to them.

Officers are also keen to trace a dark coloured vehicle travelling along the Shipley Airedale Road towards Barkerend Road at the time of the collision which happened in Shipley Airedale Road late on Tuesday night.

A man, understood to be local and in his 30s, died at the scene.

Sergeant Mat Tunney, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “Our enquiries into this collision are still at an early stage but we believe that the deceased was with another person either at the time of, or immediately before it.

“This person has not yet come forward and we are asking them to do so and speak with our officers, as we believe they may have vital information on what happened.

“We are also keen to trace a dark coloured vehicle which was travelling along the Shipley Airedale Road towards Barkerend Road at the time of the collision, as we believe the occupants may also have information which could be crucial.”

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.

A black BMW 330 car was recovered for further enquiries.

Anyone with information should contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101, quoting log 2150 of 28 November.

The incident left a number of major roads in the city centre closed during the early hours of Wednesday.

Pictures taken following the collision showed the road closed off with a police tent put up to preserve evidence by the black BMW, and a Citroen Picasso which was not involved in the incident.

Councillor Nazam Azam (Lab, City) said: “I would like to extend my condolences to the victim and his family. It is a tragic incident, particularly so close to the festive period."
