CCTV footage has emerged of a man who went on a rampage of “wanton vandalism” in Bingley, damaging nearly 30 cars and houses.

West Yorkshire Police said the vehicles and property were targeted in a “mindless spree of damage.”

One man is believed to have been responsible for all the incidents, which included plant pots and bricks being thrown through windows and windscreens and wing mirrors being broken.

The damage occurred between 5.30am and 6.30am on Saturday, November 18, with the man targeting the Primrose Bank, Ferncliffe Road, Agincourt Drive, Crosley Wood Road, and Queensway areas.

CCTV from houses on Agincourt Drive shows the man walking through the estate seemingly vandalising cars and houses at random.

Alastair Marsh, 47, said the passenger window of his Honda Jazz, which was parked outside his house, was put through after the man struck it three times with a rock.

He said: “We’ve got a lot of where he has been on CCTV. There’s a pathway at the top of the estate and a little wall that leads out onto the moors. He has jumped over that and smashed through someone’s outside door to get onto the estate.

“He has tried the doors of different houses and cars, and then picked up stones and rocks and thrown them at windows. Some cars he has targeted and some he has just ignored. It’s just random.

“He is not stumbling in the footage, and he seems in a real hurry at times.”

On the CCTV, the man, dressed in a tracksuit, is seen running towards one house before picking up a handful of small stones and throwing them at a downstairs window from inches away.

He then picks up a rock from a nearby skip and hurls it at a car, smashing the driver’s window. After picking it back up, he then carries on down the road until he reaches Mr Marsh’s car, where he throws the rock at the passenger window three times until it breaks.

Cars and homes targeted in 'mindless' spree of damage

David Longbottom, 49, said the man picked up a plant pot from outside his front door and hurled it through the window.

“I heard it smash, it woke me up,” he said. “It didn’t trigger the alarm, but my neighbour came around and knocked at the door.

“He’s just launched it through the window. Fortunately it hasn’t caused too much damage inside.

“On the CCTV, he does look a bit unsteady on his feet at times, but it was 6am, it’s a strange time.

“It just seems indiscriminate and mindless really. Just wanton vandalism.”

Kabir Bisht, 36, was forced to cancel taking his children to sporting activities later on Saturday morning as both the back and front windows of his Audi were smashed.

He said: “I didn’t hear anything to be honest. There’s been no problems in the car park here before. He was obviously really angry about something.”

Inspector Julie Deacon, of Shipley Partnership Working Area, said: “This mindless spree of damage has caused distress and inconvenience to a significant number of people.
