As winter approaches, any resemblance Cullingworth may have had to the Amazon rainforest grows fainter by the day.

So villager Dorothy Chiverton is becoming concerned for the welfare of the brightly-coloured parrot that has made its home in her garden.

The bold bird first appeared in Mrs Chiverton's garden about three weeks ago.

"It's a beautiful bird and pecks around quite happily," said Mrs Chiverton.

"It has a ring attached to one of its legs. Clearly it must belong to someone.

"We've had one or two frosty nights and it appears to be OK, but my concern is what will happen when we get into winter."

The owner of the bird, or anyone with information, is asked to contact Mrs Chiverton on 01535 271089.
