PLANNERS have once again turned down an application to keep an “inappropriate” shop front on a listed city centre building.

Earlier this year Bradford Council refused the plans to retain an aluminium and glass shop front at 6 Rawson Place (pictured), a vacant building which dates back to the 1870s.

Planning officers said the shop front was not made of suitable materials, and harmed the listed building and the street scene, which they said was in “urgent need” of improvement.

J Ashraf re-submitted plans to retain the existing shopfront, but the Council has again refused his application.

Officers said: “The use of an inappropriate material for the shopfront frames and a lack of detail does not achieve the necessary improvements to the character of the conservation area or the appearance of the listed building.”
