BRADFORD City's female fans are the focus of an exhibition opening at the National Science and Media Museum today.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy was at a preview of City Girls last night, with Bradford photographer Nudrat Afza, who has spent two years taking pictures of female football fans.

City Girls, running until June, 2018, reflects the different emotions of football fans - from excitement and nerves to despair and disappointment. Nudrat Afza went to her first City match in 2013 with her daughter. "I grew up near Valley Parade but had no interest in football. When I finally went to a match I was struck by the energy of the fans, particularly the women and girls," she said. Nudrat started to photograph female fans and City Girls is the culmination of a two-year project.

She contacted Keighley-born Simon Beaufoy, whose films include Slumdog Millionaire and The Full Monty, about plans to take photos of Bradford buildings and he gave her a Hasselblad XPan film camera.

"I used it initially to photograph buildings, then I started using it at City matches. It captures backgrounds really well," said Nudrat.
