KEIGHLEY-BASED junior club Bronte Tykes produced an impressive string of results in this year's Yorkshire Cyclocross Association’s (YCCA) Summer Series.

As previously reported, Tykes riders won four national titles, six Yorkshire regional titles and a glut of additional medals in British School Cycling Association (BSCA) races in 2017.

And the club achieved more success in YCCA events held across the county in which riders' best six results across eight races are converted into points.

The U10 girls was where the Tykes really showed their dominance, with an individual win for Madeline Moorhouse-Smith in round three at Bingley and a battle royale for overall honours between Sian Thompson and Tilly Wadsworth.

Thompson struck first in Huddersfield with Wadsworth in second, while the placings were reversed in round two at Otley. Wadsworth then scored victories at Middleton, Queensbury and Yorksport, while Thompson triumphed at York Race Course and Ossett.

With both riders never failing to reach the podium, the overall title was decided by the thinnest of margins, with Wadsworth (591) taking the title by eight points ahead of Thompson (583), with third-placed Evie Smith of Pedalsport a massive 240 points adrift.

Tilly's twin brother Oskar Wadsworth was one of several riders providing a strong showing in the U10 boys category with top-ten finishes in every round, including fourth at both York and Almondbury.

Archie Gill scored a third place at York Race Course while there were top-ten placings across various races for Zac Dimitrijevic, Thomas McAllister and Matthew Peace.

Oliver Barker grabbed two second places and two third-spot finishes among his impressive season which saw him grab second in the final overall series standing.

At U12 level, Jessica Egan’s unbroken sequence of top 10 placings secured eighth overall in the girls series, while U12 boys Maddox Howe and Oliver Sergeant both scored a handful of top-ten finishes.

Callum Feather’s third place at Bingley was later bettered by his race win at Harrogate which saw him finish seventh overall while Oliver Peace’s tremendous season included third place in four races and a handful of runner-up finishes on his way to third overall.

Ruby Firth (U14 girls) recorded a more-than-creditable fifth in her first ever race at Otley and backed this up with consistent top-ten finishes, which included third at both Bingley and Ossett, leading to a fourth place overall.

In the U14 boys, Eric Beaumont sneaked inside the top ten at round six in Queensbury, while Tom Blenkinsop’s sixth at Almondbury matched his overall placing after a string of good results.

Owen Thompson saved his best until last with a win at Scarborough on his way to fifth overall.

Charlie Albone’s 13th place overall did not fully reflect his dazzling performances in the u8 boys. Taking part in only five races, Albone never finished lower than second and took wins in Harrogate and on home soil at Bingley’s Myrtle Park.

His regular training partners Jacob Rook and Eddie Thornton also grabbed podium places – Rook’s third place at Bingley matched his performance at Otley, while Thornton grabbed third in Queensbury.

There were also top-ten finishes for Ewan Forster, Flynn Howe, Ollie McAllister, Freddie Moorhouse-Smith and Joe Timbers.

Bronte Tykes hold fully-coached training sessions twice a week throughout the year. More details can be found at brontetykes.com.
