A KEIGHLEY woman has issued a warning about “dangerous and evil” drivers after a car allegedly drove over her 12-year-old daughter’s foot.

Azra Kausar claims the driver forced his way across a Skipton canal bridge while the girl was walking on it with her 15-year-old cousin.

The girl, who she does not want to be named, was left with a bruised foot and had to receive hospital treatment.

Mrs Kauser, of Skipton Road, says the two cousins were walking from Skipton Girls High School to the railway station on Friday, November 10 between 3.45pm and 3.55pm.

She said: “As they walked over the canal bridge on Brook Street they heard a car behind them approaching quite fast.

“The girls tried to move over the canal bridge faster and get out of the way but the driver didn't slow down.

“The car tyre went over my daughter’s foot forcing her to stumble over in front of the car. She was scared the car was going to go over her.

“As she tried to get off the bridge the car then knocked her shoulder. The driver briefly stopped, put his window down, shouted abuse at them, stuck his middle finger at them and drove off.

“They were both terrified with the incident. They both walk the same route every day and have never come across anything like this before.

“As you can imagine the girls were in a state of shock and didn't get the registration number.

“Can all parents advise their children to be vigilant as there are some dangerous and evil drivers out there who don’t really care if they hurt, kill or emotionally scarred children with their actions.”

Mrs Kauser said the driver was a white male aged 50 or above and driving a purple car.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they received a report that a purple 4x4 had driven over the swing bridge at Brook Street, Skipton, and run over a 12-year-old girl’s foot, causing bad bruising.

A spokesman added: “The vehicle did not stop. Anyone who has information on this is asked to contact police via the 101 number, quoting reference NYP-11112017-0279.”

Mrs Kauser this week issued a Facebook appeal for witnesses to the alleged incident, and received dozens of messages criticising the driver and expressing concern about her daughter.

One Facebook user, Shamim Akhtar, wrote: “Hope the girls are okay. Very scary for them. Someone will know something, hope people come forward and the culprit is caught and punished.”

Andrew Idris Watts wrote: “Allah be there for them, give them a healing, and bring them back to a state of calm and confidence.”
