DRIVERS faced major delays after a car transporter overturned on a roundabout on one of the main routes out of Skipton.

Police say the transporter overturned on the A65/A59 roundabout near the Little Chef at about 1.30pm.

The lorry ended up half on the roundabout and half on the road and was fully laden with 12 cars.

It is not believed there have been any injuries.

Police warned motorists to avoid the area and said there could be delays for several hours as the recovery operation took place.

Traffic was initially able to get through, but then the road was closed to allow removal of the transporter and vehicles.

North Yorkshire Police said in a tweet: "Please avoid the A65/A59 roundabout, Skipton.

"We are dealing with a HGV Collision on the roundabout, the road will be closed for some time."
