A MOTHER-OF-THREE with terminal cancer is looking to raise cash for treatment at a German clinic.

Julie Shaw, 54, of East Morton, has stage four pancreatic cancer and has started a fundraising drive to pay for treatment and therapies.

She found out she had cancer that had spread to her liver in July this year and was told she only had a few months to live.

Doctors also told her chemotherapy had only a five to ten per cent chance of improving her life expectancy. She then contracted severe jaundice and had to have five emergency procedures to alleviate it.

Mrs Shaw, who worked as a carer, travelled to the private Hufeland Klinik in Germany on Monday for holistic immunobiological therapy for a four-week stay, costing £15,000.

She will be given a combination of treatments, which aim to boost her immune system.

She will more than likely have to return to the clinic for further treatment.

An online funding page has raised more than £18,200 towards her ongoing treatment costs.

This included almost £3,000 raised at a charity golf day, featuring 18 teams, at St Ives Golf Club in Harden held earlier this month.

Her daughter, Rebecca Bentley, 29, said: “She is doing okay at the moment.

“The clinic treatment is vital. They seem to offer more experimental cancer treatment in Germany.

“She does get in pain but keeping active is helping her.

“She is really good considering she was given months to live. She is very determined.

“She said she does not feel like she is going to die and really wants to fight this. She wants to add years on to her life.

“We have to try anything possible for her.

“We don’t know what will happen next. She will have to do it again in Germany.”

Mrs Shaw has been undergoing private treatment in Brighton since being diagnosed, after being unable to be treated on the NHS.

Rebecca added: “She has also been boosted by using a diet plan.”

Mrs Shaw posted on her justgiving page: “So far, I’m happy to say that the above treatments have had an immensely positive effect on my quality of life.”

Since being diagnosed, Mrs Shaw has also flown to South Africa for a family holiday after one of her daughters, Katie, 27, got married.
