THE final grant to help block off a fly-tipping hotspot in Bradford from traffic looks set to be approved tomorrow.

A campaign was set up in September by fed-up residents of All Alone Road, which runs from Wrose to Idle, to put an end to fly-tipping along the street.

The 800-metre long unadopted road is regularly used by drug users, as a getaway route for drivers being pursued by police, for fly-tipping and as a route by illegal quad bike riders.

Wrose Parish Council submitted an application to Bradford Council to install two five foot tall padlocked steel gates to block off a section of the road under a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

It is the first time the Council has received a request for an order since it was introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Installing the barriers would prevent vehicle access but allow unhindered passage for pedestrians and horse riders. It is hoped it would help address fly-tipping and drug abuse occurring along the road, and prevent it from being used as a means of evading police pursuit.

There have been attempts in the past to reduce anti-social behaviour on the road, with the Council installing covert cameras and ‘no fly tipping’ signs.

The cost of the PSPO and the gates stands at £9,000, with Wrose Parish Council contributing £3,000 to the total. The rest has been split equally between Shipley and Bradford East Area Committees.

At a Shipley Area Committee meeting in September, the committee agreed to pay up to £3,500.

Tomorrow, Bradford East Area Committee will convene to make a decision on whether to approve the remaining money needed for the plan. It is recommended that the Committee approves the funding at the meeting, which is due to start at 6pm.

However, Councillor Jeanette Sunderland (Lib Dem, Idle and Thackley) said the road is “not a priority in Idle and Thackley”.

She said: “Putting up gates will not stop fly-tipping, it will just move it elsewhere.

“This is an unadopted highway the committee has not funded in the past.

“There are lots of calls on the Council’s money, but All Alone Road is not a priority in the Idle and Thackley ward.”

David Jessop, chairman of Wrose Parish Council, said: “We want to prevent access to people who are up to no good.

“I’m fed up of people fly-tipping in All Alone Road and making the place look like a dump.

“Hopefully this pilot scheme will be a success and be replicated in other parts of Bradford and the UK to stop fly-tipping, which is a blight.”
